The Summer Term has been one full of excitement for Laurus Cheadle Hulme! As we reach the end of what has been a fantastic year, we would like to reflect on some of the highlights from the final term before the Summer Holidays…

Students win ‘Rising Star’ award for The Laurus Aspire at the Shine School Media Awards

As you may know, the Laurus Aspire student magazine was nominated for an award at the Shine School Media Awards earlier this term. We are so excited to share that the Laurus Aspire won a Rising Star award! The students involved in publishing the magazine have worked very hard to make it a success, and clearly, their work paid off! We would like to say a huge congratulations to the students behind the Laurus Aspire for this impressive achievement. If you would like to get your hands on the next issue of the magazine, you can pre-order your copy on ParentPay. Highlights include an exclusive tell-all interview with new Head of School, a highly academic face-off between David in Year 10 and Mr. Luscombe… and a wide range of feature articles!

Year 9 teach Spanish to Cheadle Hulme Primary School

Year 9 students at LCH have been planning and delivering fantastic Spanish lessons to our neighbours at Cheadle Hulme Primary School for our Primary Project over the past few weeks after finishing their GCSEs.

All students thoroughly enjoyed the visits and we think we have some budding young teachers, well done and have a fantastic summer from team languages! And a big thank you to CHPS for having us!

Summer Sounds Concert

The Summer music concert took place on Monday, students across the school filled the hall with the sound of music and left a lasting impression on the audience. The first half of the evening opened with 2 songs from the very talented Choir, followed by exceptional performances from the Ukulele, Woodwind and Brass groups; Big Sound; Vocal Coaching Sessions; and the Orchestra. In the second half, there were even more outstanding performances by the Choir, the Percussion and String groups, the Jazz and Motown bands, and a great solo before the grand finale ensemble of Hey Jude! Well done to all involved!

Year 7 take part in My Money Day

Last week, Year 7 students took part in ‘My Money Day’, a day full of financial education looking at everything from budgeting to currency exchanges and how different careers come with different salaries. Students thought about questions such as ‘How does money affect my feelings?’ and ‘How do I plan a simple budget?’ It was a great day of learning and fun for all!

A very successful STEM week

LCH’s annual STEM week was a huge success this year. At the start of the week, students took part in a workshop called ‘The Unexpected Maths of Juggling’ which discussed patterns and predictions within Maths.

Later, our triple science Year 9 students enjoyed a session on electronics from Andy at Thales. They got to broaden their knowledge beyond the curriculum using bread boards to make mini circuits creating flashing lights and even testing the limits of their own hearing!

As if that wasn’t enough excitement, Dr Frank Mair joined us from the University of Manchester to host a spectacular Flash Bang show for Year 8. We saw hydrogen rockets flying into the audience, giant glow sticks, colour changing solutions & even exploding balloons!

And last but certainly not least, we had our annual STEM fair. Students presented their projects on Earth Shot pillars, from reviving our oceans to how we can clean our air. The students presented beautifully and demonstrated some impressive knowledge! Finalists were chosen to go to the Trust-wide STEM fair the following week, and we are excited to say a group from LCH were awarded first place for their incredible project ‘Forced Evolution’ – what a fantastic end to a great STEM week!

Dance World Cup – student success!

Four students from LCH have recently returned from Spain after competing in the Dance World Cup and have done incredibly well. Coming 3rd place, Maddie performed commercial and lyrical group routines. Martha, Chloe and Ruby performed a number of routines across a range of styles, with their tap routine finishing 1st place – making them world champions! Well done girls!

3G Pitch Development

We have been following the development of our brand-new 3G pitch over the Summer Term on Facebook and Twitter, and are excited to say it is almost here! As work on the pitch comes to a finish, we look forward to the grand opening in September and all of the amazing opportunities this new pitch represents!

We hope you all have a fun and relaxing summer, you have all worked extremely hard this year and achieved so much. We look forward to welcoming you back next year and can’t wait to see what is to come, but for now, enjoy your well-deserved break!
